A number of factors seem to be contributing to the bee die-off, which is both good and bad. Some of them, fortunately, are easy fixes (such as feeding bees a healthier food than high fructose corn syrup—no really), which means the situation could be ameliorated in the short term if not entirely addressed; other factors are far more difficult to deal with, either for policy reasons or due to the sheer size of the problem (climate shift).

Europe is taking an aggressive stance, issuing a two-year ban on some common pesticides believed to be playing a role in order to see if it helps. The US EPA, on the other hand, “is currently reviewing the situation and will come out with its own recommendations in 2018.”

Smart plan, EPA. If you just wait for them all to be dead, then you won’t have to do anything at all.

Personally, I suspect that the European chemical ban is going to get some spectacular results, and the US agro-industry is going to have some ugly soul-searching to do.

I cannot get over how GOOD he is at acting with his face. The microexpressions—just look at the pain on his face in that first one, at the therapist’s office. He’s almost smiling, except for the tension about the eyes. If you only looked casually, you might assume he was feeling pretty decent about life.

“I want to do so much more right before bed and I don’t understand why!”

So basically when you stay up way too late it effects your problem solving ability and your ability to make decisions. ^[1]

Do you want to know a possible reason as to why that “I stayed up really late and now I feel so creative and willing to draw!” feeling happens? Because your self-critique center is shutting down because you’ve been awake for too long.

You are always as creative and able to do things as you were when you were awake. That potential doesn’t just disappear.

Difference is— when you’re wide awake you have a stronger problem-solving and decision-making center, which is obviously related to self-critique. Being tired doesn’t necessarily make you more creative and motivated, being tired forces you to quiet that part of yourself that holds you back.

Something to think about.

Hah, well, that explains a lot.

Any advice on turning the self-critique off, other than sleep deprivation? Because “Shut up no lalalala LOOK NO IT’S FINE LOOK JUST LET ME WRITE I CAN EDIT IT LATER” doesn’t seem to be working.

I just break out into riotous laughter at what the fashion industry considers ‘plus-size’ these days. She’s carrying, what, maybe 20 pounds over her ideal weight? Assuming she’s the usual tall model type, that puts her comfortably within a healthy BMI range. And check out the definition on her abs, and that really spectacular rack.

Her primary sin seems to be daring to actually have hips. She’d be a screaming hit on the beach, in one of the coolest bikinis I’ve ever seen.

If you like this AU as much as I do, you should read You Give Me Fever by michi (and read the warnings…). It’s set in 50’s America, from the POV of a rebellious, obsessive Sherlock, and his growing relationship with the new kid, John. Michi said she was careful with the words she used to craft the sentences, and it shows! The story is beautifully poetic and evocative, set deep in Sherlock’s point of view, and you learn so much about him just from the way he thinks about things. I loved this <3 I love this whole AU <3
